Yarn Bits....

So, last spring while perusing blog land i found one that did the most amazing thing with all there little bits of left over yarn. I'm so sorry as to I can not for the life of me remember which one it was...........Ya know all the left overl yarn shrapnel that usually just goes to wast, but not anymore.

So, I saved and saved all my tittly bits in a cereal Rubbermaid container right next to my comfy chair.  Now keep in mind this was no easy task to find the right container you see....Because it had to be the right height, with a lid that flipped but attached. Cuz I didn't want to have to bend way over, or leave a lid off cuz they could get all dusty in there. I knew if it wasn't convenient I wouldn't follow through with this plan.  Then I went through the whole thing of "oh I kind find that second hand"   Well, I found tons of them when I wasn't looking...lol Oh well, I just went and bought one.  Whew....with all that said this is what I found......

Now that is an entire winter's worth of yarn bits..... I had soo much fun watch it grow and grow all winter.. Hummm now that I look at it in this pic I think it needs a cover???

Now you wanna see what I did with them??????

Ta da!!!!!!

Now all the little birdies in the neighbor hood can have pretty little scraps in their nest's.. Now I did have enough to fill like 10 of these, but lil M and I only did 2. One out front and one out back... Doesn't it just look fab against the drab yard......

Granny Goodness!!!!

Aren't these colors just fab??? I cannot get enough of them!!!! I'm using 100% cotton sugar and cream yarn. It is my first time using cotton. Not sure how I like it...the jury is still out on that one, but I couldn't pass up these colors.

Gee, OH my, These little grannies are just Divine!

And she is just growing and growing!  Again you're probably tired of hearing about these colors, but here where I live I don't have a large variety of yarn shops. And I'm kinda of a weirdo and have to touch and feel it before i buy it.  For example I ordered some Bernat yarn about a month ago, and when it got here the colors were awful. I'm still dealing with trying return them.

WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?

Holly crow, it's been over a month since my last post? I guess with the starting of a new job, probably is the culprit...........

So many things have happened since my last post!  First, with the passing of our beloved kitty Oscar, we rescued a new baby kitty.....Pheobe! Oh she is such a delight, but I had forgotten about all the sneak attacks in the middle of the night...LOL Unfortunately I have not been able to get a good picture of her.

Now i have also been crocheting like a mad woman!  Here are a few pics....

This first one is me trying to use up some yarn, but that never seems to happen?

This Chloe flower blanket is me trying different colors from my usual pallet

This blue and purple was my stress reliever when i just needed to get lost for a while... and it will be a gift a friend of mine. She doesn't know it yet..he he

Lastly, here i am again, trying to use up some yarn, but you know as well as i do that i will end up just buying more...lol

We had a terrific snow storm here last week, it was dreamy!

It was our only snow for the winter so far....
It was thick and heavy!

So, thick in fact it filled the neighbors cyclone fence. It was absolutely wonderful!!!

Well, ta ta till next time!

Promise not to be so long!

Laundry Soap Love!

OK, OK, So you all remember way back when I made my own Laundry Soap? Well, I do and I absolutely love it!!!!! And it lasted so long!!!!!

This was the start....On September 8th, 2011

And this is the end......On December 26th, 2011

Not does it clean well, it was very cost effective too!

It cost
Fels-naptha 1.15 per bar   (3bars)
Borax  4.99 a box (3/4 box)
Super Soda 3.99 a box (1 box)

Grand total.....$12.43 and you use only 1 TBS per load

Now I do on average 9 loads of laundry a week, so that's 3 1/2 months worth,

and that's 126 loads = 0.09865...per load, OK 10 cents a load....Not bad if i do say so myself!!

So, this time I made a double batch.. ha ha

Ta ta till next time!

P. S. Next post will be pictures of our new member of the family, she's a little shy now...  : O )

Crochet Therapy

I know it's been a while since my last post, but with the loss of Oscar and the hustle and bustle the Holiday's bring, it's been nuts around here. Oh did I mention I started a new job too? Oh well, it's working out very nicely. In my spare time? really? Don't ask me where I found it, but I've made another wondrous blanky!

I've been seeing all these pic's of diagonal afghans, and scarves on Pinterest. I had been thinking about trying one for a while now, and was in need of some desperate emotional therapy after Oscar's passing.
Here's the start....

I'm using the left over yarn from my Ripple and Hexagon blanky's, with a little more purple/pink hues that i got on clearance at Michaels a while back....This lovely Pattern is so easy to follow! There is an English version too...thank goodness.

I found this blanky as soothing to work on as the ripple. It came together nicely! Do pay attention to the  pile off stuff in the back ground...that's for a glorious bridal shower I threw for neighbor.. Yes? did I say crazy time of year???

Did I mention that in my family there are 6 birthdays, and 1 anniversary in December? My middle son J is now 16! We had a splendid time with the family celebrating his milestone of a birthday.  So as you can see, I needed some ME time to think and plan all these festivities, plus Christmas shop, and start a new job! Also decorating for Christmas and I haven't even started baking yet... yikes!!!!!

I will admit I did dearly miss my corchet companion....Oscar.  How he would try to sneak a nap or two on every blanky I've ever made. he would just give me this look of....really? you don't need this end of the blanky, or I was only gonna rest for a lil while??? Or to get up to go do something and find him all snuggled up in a blanky creation just a purring away...thinking...is this one for me????

This is my least favorite part of an afghan.....Do have to say that I truly despise weaving in the ends of an afghan....it drives me batty, but for some reason I cannot bring myself to tuck them in as I go????

Well, I'm off to deal with a mountain of laundry, and a another headache.... : O (

I'll be back to post pictures of the decorations!

RIP Oscar.......

As you can tell by the tittle this has not been a good few weeks here on the Avenue. Our beloved kitty Oscar has become very ill and passed away.

He was only 6 1/2 years old but a mysterious illness snuffed his little soul way to soon. He was the king of our household and will be missed greatly.  It's only been a week since his passing the the puppies seem so melancholy without him to romp around the house with.  As for the teens they miss the daily greetings at the door and the midnight sneak attach snuggles form him, but we will mend and be OK

We love you Oscar!!
